Shire President David Lavell said it was wonderful to see so much community interest in the new facility.

"Boya Community Centre is fantastic new space for people to enjoy the library and hire out community space," he said.

"People were eagerly waiting for the doors to open on Monday morning; some people even delayed their children going to school so they could be among the first to look through."

Boya Community Centre houses Katharine Susannah Prichard Library, as well as 300sqm community space to replace Boya and Greenmount halls.

The $7.4 million project by Badge Construction was finished months ahead of schedule. Oval works are still continuing.

"Hundreds of visitors visited the new library and marvelled at the space – there is a bright and cheerful children's corner, several meeting rooms and a focus on digital technology with free WIFI and self-checkout," Cr Lavell said.

"People received a commemorative bookmark, book bags and the chance to enter several competitions. We welcome everyone to come and look at the new facility and enjoy all it has to offer."

Cr Lavell said the community space was available for hire for weddings, functions and regular bookings.

"The space can cater for up to 200 people, with the room able to be divided into two for smaller events," he said.

"This is a fully accessible facility complete with kitchen servery."
