Pegs at Lake Leschenaultia no cause for alarm

‚ÄčA NUMBER of survey pegs spotted at Lake Leschenaultia have raised some questions, however there are no immediate plans for development.

Shire President David Lavell said survey pegs were linked to the development of a Master Plan for the Lake.

"The Master Plan for Lake Leschenaultia is a document which will assist and guide Council when considering any future proposed capital developments at the Lake over a 20-year period," he said.

"The master plan will assist in managing growth and development of the site, whilst preserving its recreational opportunities and environment and heritage values."

Cr Lavell said community consultation some years ago revealed a strong desire to retain the existing services at the Lake, while providing enhanced facilities for visitors.

"Basically users told us they love all the Lake has to offer, particularly the beaches, canoe hire and camping, but it needs to meet modern needs," he said.

"The development of this Master Plan will show how we can achieve enhanced visitor experiences over the coming decades. The scope of the plan will investigate elements such as improvements to the public day area, a function centre, play equipment, campground and maybe even a caravan park.

"The survey pegs are therefore there to help mark out where this development could occur, taking into account the native environment, vehicle movements and ultimately, cost."

Cr Lavell said it was important to note that there were currently no allocations for any development at the Lake listed in the current Long Term Financial Plan.

"This master plan will assist in determining the priority of and level of resources to be allocated by Council to any future developments and is an important document," he said.

"We know how many people love Lake Leschenaultia and development in the future could help market this natural beauty to more visitors."
