About the Lake

Lake Leschenaultia is a 168 hectare bushland well-known for its canoeing, swimming, cycling and barbeque facilities.

The Lake is the perfect spot for a family outing with cool shaded areas, lawns, white sand beaches and playground equipment. Shelters and lawn areas can be hired for exclusive use.  Please note that dogs and pets are not permitted at Lake Leschenaultia.

Originally known as Chidlows Well, the Lake was built in 1897 as a dam by the Western Australian Government Railway to replenish the steam engines travelling to Northam, York and beyond.

A variety of native trees including Marri and Wandoo and wildflowers can be seen together with an abundance of bird life including ducks, geese, herons and swamp hens. Kangaroos, possums, bandicoots and echidnas roam the surrounding bush.
