Bushland Reserves
Home > Resident Services > Environment > Bushland Reserves

The Shire of Mundaring has many bushland reserves within its boundary. Some of these reserves are vested with the Shire, whilst large tracts of bushland are also vested with the Department of Land Information, Department of Environment and Conservation, Department of Water and others with private owners. The Shire has 7663h of native vegetation zoned for parks and recreation. A further 18,054h are within state forests in the Shire.

The Shire of Mundaring undertook a Reserves Study in 1996, which identified and prioritises reserves for management. Currently, there is a top 100-list and top 200-reserve list, which has been prioritised according to its conservation and biodiversity status. This Shire is initiating a process to review the reserves study.

Under the direction of the Shire's Bushcare Coordinator, over 70 Volunteer Friends of Reserve Groups are registered to provide bushland care to Shire vested reserves. Most groups are concerned with a parcel of bushland located near to their residence; however, many groups also form part of Catchment Groups of which there are 5 within the Shire of Mundaring.
