Wetlands

Residents can contribute to the protection and restoration of wetlands and watercourses by understanding their location and status and the impact of land use on them.  The Shire has rules regarding activities that can be undertaken on watercourses on private property.  The Managing your Watercourse Brochure will assist in providing advice on these rules.

Riparian vegetation along watercourses signify the health of a watercourse.  The Value of Fringing Vegetation (Watercourse) by Una Bell discusses this importance as well as the identification of native plants that are found along watercourses in the Perth Hills.  The Creekline Poster summarises the essence of fringing vegetation and the need to protect it, especially from fertilisers and pollutants (Fertiliser Brochure).
