Environmental Management Strategy
The Shire of Mundaring has contributed strongly to environmental management. In the 1990's the Environmental Advisory Committee developed an Environmental Management Strategy (EMS). This EMS provided the primary focus for the "protection and management of the Shire's unique environment" and was primarily managed and monitored by the Shire's EAC.

State of the Environment
The Shire of Mundaring has taken a committed and proactive role towards managing its environment in a sustainable way. A snapshot of the 2006 Environment in the Shire of Mundaring is captured in the State of the Environment (2008). The State of the Environment report communicates information about the condition of the Shire's environment. With input from the community and shire staff, it helps to identify current threats and pressures to the local environment and the responses required to address them. An example of this would be the condition of the atmosphere and measurable indicators associated with it such as greenhouse effect, ozone depletion, smog and emission of sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide. The State of the Environment reporting process also plays an important part in assessing the effectiveness of the Shire's existing policies and environmental strategies in order to protect and maintain Mundaring's unique environment and dependant ecosystems.
