The Shire's Sustainability Information Sheet includes examples of sustainability measures installed at the Shire Administration and Depot Offices to reduce energy and water use.
The Shire undertakes the Achieving Carbon Emissions Reduction (ACER) Program which is an initiative developed to encourage member Councils within Perth's Eastern Region to monitor, report on and reduce their corporate carbon emissions. The Program also provides information and education to the community and local businesses in the region on reducing energy consumption and other climate change related issues.
The ACER Power-Mate is a tool designed to help residents conduct an energy audit of their own home identifying potential savings. Power-Mate Units may be borrowed through the Mundaring or Greenmount library in the same way as hiring a book or DVD. Refer to Power-Mates Information Sheet.
Shire of Mundaring joined the Water Campaign™ in 2004 to reinforce its existing pro-active stance towards water conservation.
The initiatives for the Local Governments and communities have included installation of water efficient bathroom appliances in Shire buildings, water efficient practises in parks and gardens and the reuse of waste-water for irrigation. It also acts to manage waste, herbicide usage, erosion and sedimentation.
The Shire also encourages sustainable water management in the community through water sensitive policies and controls in residential developments. The Water Campaign Action Plan (2006) provides actions towards achieving water savings across Shire business.
