There are known to be about 118 native species of birds in the area. Many of these are specialized insect, seed or nectar feeders and as such are dependent on the presence of specific vegetation types. Three of the bird species listed as rare are the Peregrine Falcon, Carnaby's Black Cockatoo and Baudin's Black Cockatoo.

Detailed information on some of the wildlife found in the Shire, along with how you can get involved in caring for wildlife and a list of endangered species go to www.naturebase.net and follow the links to the relevant pages

The Shire has free Fauna Posters of local animal species of the Eastern Hills which can be used as an education tool.  For copies of the fauna poster, please contact the Shire's Bushcare Coordinator or Environment Officer on 9290 6666.
