Prevention
Prevention, prepardness, response and recovery are essential elements in the fight against bushfires and the damage they cause to property, residents and the community. The Shire of Mundaring administers the Bush Fires Act (1954), which covers areas outside of Gazetted Fire Districts, and applies these principles to create a safer community.
Across Western Australia there are times when burning is either restricted or prohibited by law. This is to ensure that burning to control fire hazards is conducted with the minimum of delay. These times are published in the Shire's Fire Break Notice and are known as Restricted and Prohibited Burning Times. The installation of Firebreaks is also a requirement of the Bush Fires Act. Before burning permits must be sought from the Shire; penalties apply if these guidelines are not followed.

RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD
Please be advised that the RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD for the Shire of Mundaring has commenced from midnight September 30 2009 until midnight November 30 2009 inclusive.

RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD 1
Permits Required
October 1st to November 30th (inclusive)
PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD
1st December to 31st March (inclusive)
ALL BURNING PROHIBITED
All burning, including the burning of garden refuse after 6pm, is prohibited during this period.
RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD 2

1st April to 31st May (inclusive)

Firebreaks must be installed on or before 30 November and maintained clear of flammable material up to and including 31 March.

Preparedness
Every resident is responsible for their own safety. There is fire preparedness information available from the Shire to assist you with preparing your property and family to cope with this aspect of our environment.
Response
The Shire of Mundaring supports 10 Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades who respond to fire incidents within the community. All brigades are interested in gaining your support. There is a role for everyone in a brigade so please contact them and discover how you can support your community and how they can assist you.
Recovery
Local Government ensures that our community recovers from traumatic events such as bush fires, by ensuring that infrastructure is restored, assisting community groups establish environmental rehabilitation and importantly offering trauma recovery services.
