 Impounded Cats

Any Cats found may be claimed by contacting the Shire of Mundaring Community Safety on 9290 6629 or 9290 6666 or A/Hrs 9290 6666. Cats not claimed within 72 hours of impoundment, may be offered for sale. Any cats not claimed or sold may be disposed of in accordance with the Shire of Mundaring Local Law "Keeping of Cats".   

Responsible Cat Ownership

The Shire of Mundaring introduced it's "Keeping of Cats" Local Law in January 2005 in a bid to  control the number of  cats kept on a property. The Shire promotes responsible pet ownership by encouraging cat owners to have their cats sterilised and request that cats are kept indoors at night.

  • "Cat" does not include a cat less than 3 months of age. Any Cats of various, sizes and breeds fall under the Shire of Mundaring Local Law "Keeping of Cats"
  • The Shire promotes responsible cat ownership by encouraging cat owners to have their cats sterilised and request that they keep their cats contained to the property at all times. 
  • A keeper of a cat shall identify the cat by means of a collar with a tag securely attached and or a microchip implanted containing information that will provide information
  • Ensure your cat is provided with shelter from harsh weather conditions, fresh food and water daily, and a soft, safe sleeping area.
  • If you lose your cat inform the Rangers as soon as possible.
  • Where an impounded cat is wearing an identification tag or microchip implant the Rangers are required by law to notify the owner.
  • Do not allow your cat to enter private property with out authorisation , cat prohibited areas or any public place.
  • Keeping one to two cats, a permit is not required.
  • Keeping of three cats or more, a permit is required. Application for a permit shall be made by the occupier of premises in relation to those premises,
  • The application should:
  • specify the number of cats to be kept on the premises
  • Describe the cats which are to be kept on the premises

  • Be in a form approved by Local Government

  • Be accompanied by any fee imposed and determined by the Local Government under and in accordance with Section 6.16 to 6.19 of the Act, and be accompanied by the consent in writing of the owner of the premises where the occupier is not the owner of the premises to which the application relates.
