Disability Awareness Week and
International Day of People with Disability
The International Day of People with Disability is held annually on 3 December and is celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability. The Shire celebrates Disability Awareness Week and International Day of People with Disability by either purchasing a piece of equipment to assist people with disability (or similar) or by providing an event.
Celebration of Ability Award
The Celebration of Ability Award was launched to coincide with the International Day of People with Disability. The Shire provides a maximum of three trophies each year which are awarded to either a business, community group or individual (from within the Shire of Mundaring), to acknowledge their positive impact on the lives of people with disability.
Shire of Mundaring's Celebration of Ability Award returns in 2017, with nominations now open. The launch of the Award coincides with International Day of People with Disability on Saturday 3 December.
The Award recognises people in both paid and volunteer roles who made a real difference to the lives of others by easing some of the social isolation that can be experienced by people with disability.
Nomination forms are available at several locations including the Shire Administration Building, local libraries, The Hub of the Hills, Mundaring Sharing, Mundaring Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank and Rise.
For information about the Award or to have a nomination form posted to you please phone the Access Advisor on 9290 6718 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nominations close 25 January 2017.
