Both Libraries - Overview:

Mundaring Toy Library is run by the members who elect a Committee to oversee the operation of the Toy Library, while the Toy Library Officer provides clerical support. Swan View Toy Library is overseen by the Toy Library Officer who also supports the members who run the borrowing sessions. Swan View Toy Library also has a member Committee which assists with rosters, promotions, etc. Both Toy Libraries raise funds to purchase new toys and a regular grant is received from Lotterywest. The Shire of Mundaring supports these services by taking responsibility for the buildings, grounds, utilities and general office expenses as well as employing a Toy Library Officer.

Mundaring Toy Library

A community-based project proudly sponsored by the Shire of Mundaring and Lotterywest.

Mundaring Toy Library is a convenient way for your child to explore a wide range of toys without having to buy them! We have everything from baby's first toys to construction, role play, jigsaws, games and much more, just waiting for your children to explore.

The Toy Library is run by all members on a roster basis with Supervisors (members trained in operation of the computer system) in attendance at each session. The Toy Library is headed by a Committee whose core members are comprised of: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Roster Coordinator, Newsletter Editor, Publicity Officer, Party Pack Officer and Fundraising Officer.  All members are welcome to contribute to this team by nominating for any of the committee positions at each year's AGM (held at the end of each year), or by contacting Anne Clohessy for information on becoming a Supervisor.

Membership

Members pay a low annual fee that enables them to borrow toys throughout the ensuing year (from actual date of joining). There are no weekly hire fees.  Borrowing entitlements vary according to the membership type.  Fees and entitlements are as follows:

Standard Family Membership

$40.00
2 toys, 1 CD, CDROM or cassette, 1 video, 1 book, plus another 4 items consisting of up to 2 dress-ups, 3 jigsaws and 2 games

Concession Membership
$33.00
As above

Corporate Membership
$55.00
3 toys

Supervisors are rewarded for their assistance at the Toy Library by being entitled to one extra toy per borrowing period, and one free Party Pack each year. Please contact the Toy Library Officer on Mondays to arrrange Supervisor training.

Conditions

The loan period is for two weeks. Items may, however, be exchanged earlier.
Borrowers are required to clean and thoroughly dry the toys they’ve borrowed at home prior to returning.
If an item is damaged/lost whist out on loan the member is responsible for its repair/replacement cost. Failure to pay these costs may result in the member's suspension. All members are required to do roster duties (usually one per school term) and participate in the annual stocktake.

The Toys

All our toys are carefully selected to provide entertainment and educational benefits for children up to the age of 8 years.  With approximately 1200 toys in the collection, there are many varied play experiences awaiting your child. To assist in selection and location of items, the toys are shelved according to the colour-coded category to which they belong  -  Activity, Baby, Construction, Dress-ups, Fine Motor, Games, Instruments, Jigsaws, Literature, Music, Role Play, Sand & Water and Video.   Our Jigsaws are also further categorized into levels (1 to 5), with Level 1 being simple inserts through to Level 5 consisting of the more difficult puzzles with many pieces. Some of the very popular toys are also marked "Goldstar", depicted by a gold star sticker on the label.  Borrowing of these toys is restricted to one per member per borrowing period to ensure all members have good access to the high demand items.
