THE Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC), which manages waste on behalf of six member Councils, is conducting a series of bin audits in Shire of Mundaring.
The process is part of a wider community program to pave the way for the roll-out of a three bin FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) Strategy, aimed at diverting thousands of tonnes of waste from landfill.
A key part of the Strategy will be to encourage every resident in the region to think of food and garden waste as a valuable commodity.
Implementation of the three-bin approach is fully aligned with the State's Waste Avoidance and Research Recovery Strategy 2030 which has a target for all households in Perth and Peel region to go FOGO by 2025.
Not all households and suburbs will be involved in the bin audit program. A small representative sample of households will be chosen to see the typical composition of waste in the domestic kerbside bins.
The aim of the program is to better understand the typical domestic waste composition to assist the Shire of Mundaring to decide on future three bin configuration arrangements. Shire of Mundaring bins are being inspected in randomly selected areas.
