Celebrating Community Awards 2021

Do you know an individual, business or community group who has made a significant voluntary contribution to our Shire communities?

Nominations are now open for the Shire of Mundaring's annual Celebrating Community Awards.

Shire President, John Daw, said the awards recognise the valuable contribution that volunteers living in the Shire make to our communities.

"Many organisations are entirely volunteer-led and volunteer-managed. Other organisations could not operate without volunteers supporting paid workers.  Without volunteers, many activities and services would be unable to run," he said.

"Volunteers are wonderful residents whose leadership and skills transform our communities into compassionate and vibrant places."

"There are 6725 volunteers in the Shire. The monetary value of volunteers' time in the Shire equates approximately to $53 million per annum."

"But the value of volunteer efforts is greater than the financial.  It includes the social and leadership values that make an enduring improvement in our communities."

"We look forward to receiving nominations from community members, organisations and businesses and hearing the stories behind the volunteer experience."

Nominees will be recognised for their achievements at an event on Saturday 5 December 2021 across four categories:

Rising Star (under 25)

The Rising Star Award recognises a young individual or group of young people who have made a significant contribution to their local community.

Inspirational Volunteer
The Inspirational Volunteer Award recognises an individual or group who, through a volunteering role, has made an outstanding contribution to the local community.

Access Mundaring
The Access Mundaring Award recognises an individual or group who are making a difference by creating a more accessible and inclusive Shire of Mundaring.

Long Service
The Long Service Award recognises an individual or group who are community champions, having continuously served the community in excess of ten years.

Cr Daw said Celebrating Community nominees would also be considered for the Shire's Citizenship Award which will be presented on Australia Day 2022.

"Citizenship Award winners are selected by a panel from the pool of Celebrating Community nominees and these very special winners will be announced at a celebratory event on Wednesday 26 January 2022."
