The installation of new floodlights at Chidlow Oval has been welcomed by local sporting clubs and residents.
The much-anticipated community project has been largely driven by the Chidlow Cougars Football Club with support from other clubs in the area.
At the celebratory event on Friday 3 May, Shire President John Daw commended the clubs for their tenacity, determination and lobbying efforts to help achieve funding commitments towards the project.
Cr Daw acknowledged the $100,000 Federal Funding contribution – supported by Ken Wyatt MP Member for Hasluck – through the Community Development Grants Program.
Cr Daw also acknowledged the State Government funding of $167,000 – supported by Jessica Shaw MLA Member for Swan Hills. The funding was approved through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and awarded through the State Government Local Projects and Local Jobs Program.
Chidlow Oval is the first oval in the Shire to feature LED lighting. Additionally, there are six lighting towers and 28 lamp assemblies and the system can run at either half or full capacity.
"The introduction of night lights at our oval is a significant development for Chidlow," Cr Daw said. "It will allow people to play sports (and other activities) in the evenings which will make a big difference to our community."
