Comment sought on Access and Inclusion

Access and Inclusion questionnaire

SHIRE of Mundaring is reviewing its Access and Inclusion Plan and is calling on community members for comments and feedback.

Shire President David Lavell said the Plan helped guide the Shire in creating a more inclusive and accessible community.

"The common elements of access and inclusion are the removal or reduction of barriers to participation in the activities and functions of a community," he said

"This can be achieved by ensuring events, buildings, facilities, playgrounds, outdoor spaces, services, information and processes are accessible to the whole community.

"It helps to support those people who have various disability, people who are facing increasing challenges due to advanced ageing or loss of physical ability or function, and includes people who use prams, wheelchairs, motorised wheelchairs (gophers) and assistance equipment."

Feedback is being sought via an online questionnaire from community members, in particular people with disability, family and friends of people with disability, carers, agencies and service providers.

The questionnaire focuses on any areas of concern within the Shire, and provides opportunity for further ideas and suggestions for improved access and inclusion.

Questionnaires need to be returned to the Shire by Monday 19 September. Hard copies are also available.

A community consultation session will be led by Independent Disability Consultant Ben Sgherza, who has the experience of disability, to get feedback on the Shire’s Access and Inclusion Plan. The session will run on Wednesday 14 September 2016 from 6pm to 8pm. It will be held in the Shire of Mundaring Administration Building Civic Area, 7000 Great Eastern Highway, Mundaring.

An interpreter will be provided if requested before 7 September. After this time an interpreter can only be provided if one is available.
