Event and Matching Grant applications now open

Local volunteer groups and not for profit organisations with a great idea for an event or project that involves or benefits the local community are invited to apply for a Community Event or Matching Grant. These grants are distributed twice a year through the Shire’s Community Grants Program.

The Community Event Grant, worth up to $5000, will assist eligible groups to run fetes, festivals, markets, sporting/recreational carnivals, exhibitions, small performances and training related to the event. The Matching Grant, worth up to $2000, is for projects meeting the needs of the local community.

Shire President John Daw said the grants offer financial assistance to help local groups such as sporting clubs, youth organisations and art and cultural groups undertake community events and projects that benefit the community.

“After a difficult start to the year we are looking forward to hearing from community groups and not-for-profits about initiatives that will bring the community together.”

The matching grant offers a vital funding opportunity for many community groups to purchase items ranging from storage and air-conditioning to fencing and play equipment.

“This grant has allowed groups to deliver important community services, support their members with the right equipment and training and improve the facilities they operate from,” Cr Daw added.

“We have awarded grants to a number of iconic local events over recent years, including A Day in the Forrest in Glen Forrest, Mundaring in Transitions’ Blue Sky Festival, the Whim Festival in Mt Helena and the Darlington Community Bonfire.”

“Opportunities for our community to connect and celebrate are also welcomed.”

Applications are open from Friday 12 February and close at 4pm on Monday 15 March.
