Shire President John Daw welcomed the first deposit to Shire of Mundaring's new Containers for Change drop-off point yesterday.
The scheme, which offers a 10c refund for every eligible container, officially kicked off in Western Australia on 1 October with the drop-off point at the Coppin Road Community Recycling Centre now open for business.
“Through the scheme, Shire of Mundaring can continue to champion a sustainable future, facilitate community recycling efforts and support fundraising initiatives by local groups,” Cr Daw said.
Sawyers Valley’s Riding for the Disabled Association Horsepower Hills was the first group to turn containers into change for their organisation.
Shire of Mundaring will support eligible community organisations, including businesses and schools who are keen to raise funds by participating in the scheme, by providing bins and a collection service. Interested groups can contact the Shire on email@example.com or 9290 6691 for details.
The Shire appreciates the assistance and expertise of the EMRC in preparing the Container Deposit Scheme operations at Coppin Road.
