Councils consider new 'waste to energy' facility

Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) is proposing to develop a Resource Recovery Facility, to be based in Rockingham.

The role of a Resource Recovery Facility is to manage household rubbish after residents have reduced, re-used and recycled their waste. It uses a 'waste to energy' process.

The EMRC comprises six member councils in Perth's eastern suburbs. They are Shire of Mundaring, Town of Bassendean, Cities of Bayswater, Belmont, Kalamunda and Swan.

Agreement for the Shire's participation will be considered in a confidential report at the next Shire of Mundaring Ordinary Council meeting on Tuesday, 10 October(Please note: Due to the 'Commercial in Confidence' nature of the item, all member councils will discuss the matter behind closed doors).

To find out more information about the proposal, the following documents are available on the EMRC website:

All member councils will be involved in the decision-making process.

Any queries about the proposed facility should be directed to the EMRC on 9424 2222.
