SHIRE of Mundaring, in partnership with Water Corporation, is hosting a free Waterwise gardening forum on Saturday 24 February 2018.
The workshop, which will run from 9am to 12.30pm, will see guest speakers Neil Marriot and John Forrest of South Metropolitan TAFE share their knowledge of Waterwise irrigation systems and turf management.
The latter part of the workshop will involve a special treat for gardening enthusiasts; a presentation from local garden design expert and popular 6PR radio presenter Sue McDougall.
Shire of Mundaring environment and sustainability coordinator, Briony Moran, said the event was a great opportunity to learn about gardening methods that could save you both water and money.
"Many people don't realise that over 40 per cent of household water is used outdoors," said Ms Moran.
"By getting to know the needs of your garden, and the watering requirements of different types of plants, you can minimise water wastage and find significant savings."
Ms Moran said the Shire's recent re-endorsement by Water Corporation as a Waterwise Council meant it would continue leading the way forward in sustainable water management.
"Being recognised as a Waterwise Council is a great achievement and demonstrates the Shire's ongoing commitment to establishing and supporting Waterwise practices in the local community," she said.
Shire of Mundaring was awarded Gold Waterwise status and recognised as one of the State's top water saving councils in 2017.
