LOCAL residents can once again enjoy free entertainment close to home this summer with the Shire's revitalised events program. This expanded series was developed in response to community requests to bring bigger and better activities to the local area.
The 'Summer of Entertainment Community Events Series', which kicks off in December, incorporates the Shire's popular long-standing Cinema Under Starlight program with new initiative, Twilight Tunes, a range of concerts to be held at Mundaring Sculpture Park Amphitheatre.
With eight free events planned, the new expanded community event calendar will provide opportunities for Hills residents to come together in a casual setting and enjoy a family evening without having to travel far from home.
Continuing through to March, the series will feature four Cinema Under Starlight movies and four Twilight Tunes concerts including a special Australia Day concert and light show.
Shire President John Daw said the events were a great opportunity for families to come together and enjoy a night out.
"This fantastic series will provide an opportunity for local musicians to showcase their talents and a platform for community groups and businesses to reach a wider audience," Cr Daw said.
"What better way to spend a summer's night than watching a movie or enjoying a concert under the stars with your family and friends while supporting local business."
The new series has been made possible thanks to partnerships with Perth Airport Corporation, Lotterywest, Mundaring Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank and the Mundaring Chamber of Commerce.
For the first time residents of the Shire will be able to register their attendance and go into the draw to win a prize. To win the entrant will need to be present at the event.
Prizes for Cinema Under Starlight include seating for two in a VIP area, with prime viewing, bean bag chairs and a tasting plate courtesy of Café Mojo. Prizes for Twilight Tunes include a $50.00 voucher for use at a local eatery with a family prize pack on offer for early registration for the Australia Day Concert.
Additionally the Mundaring Chamber of Commerce will liaise with local hospitality businesses to provide meal deals for event patrons including pre-ordered picnic hampers to be collected at the vendor prior to the event. Businesses offering specials will be asked to display blue lights in their windows over the summer period to identify themselves as participants.
The format for each of the cinema components remains the same as that of previous years with gates opening at 6pm and movies starting at sunset. Twilight Tunes concerts will be commence at 5pm with the exception of the Australia Day concert, which will commence at 6pm. People attending the series are encouraged to bring a blanket and/or low-backed chairs to sit on.
Details of each event will be posted on the Shire's Facebook page. Simply follow the Shire on Facebook, log into the Shire's online engagement portal engage.mundaring.wa.gov.au, visit this website or call 9290 6718 for more information.
