HOCKEY lovers and sports fans alike are in for a treat as Hockey WA and the Malaysian National Senior teams take on each other in two indoor hockey games at Mundaring Arena on Wednesday June 26.
The games form part of the Malaysian National Senior teams upcoming tour of Perth and will provide the Mundaring community with a fantastic opportunity to experience hockey at an international level right on their doorstep.
As part of the Shire's commitment to sport and recreation, the $10.1 million, state-of-the-art arena was the largest capital project ever undertaken by the Shire.
Manager Recreation and Leisure Services Kirk Kitchin said the Shire had specifically installed a playing surface that would accommodate sports to be played at an international level.
"It's great to see Mundaring Arena being used by the Malaysian hockey team," he said. "It's a testament to the quality of the facility," he said.
Since officially opening in May 2018, the Arena has proven to be a popular addition to the sport and recreation facilities available within the Shire of Mundaring.
Already home to several community sports teams and associations, the Arena features an international standard four court indoor stadium with LED Matrix score boards; function room (with capacity of 200), committee room (with capacity of 30), referee room, first aid room and kiosk.
The Arena is fully accessible with external ramps from the car park to the entry, and an internal lift.
Mr Kitchin encouraged the community to show their support for the teams playing by attending the games and welcoming the international visitors.
