THE Western Australian Government has implemented a state-wide ban on lightweight plastic shopping bags from 1 July 2018. The ban applies to all retailers including supermarkets, fashion boutiques, takeaway food outlets, restaurants, and even markets.
To minimise negative impacts on business, the National Retail Association (NRA) has partnered with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) to help businesses prepare for the ban and successfully manage the transition. The NRA is currently rolling out its Retailer Engagement Program which offers free advice, resources and workshops for local businesses.
The NRA will visit retailers in Mundaring on Thursday 16 August to provide advice on the bag ban.
Information about the bag ban can be found in the following fact sheet and media release by the NRA.
Additional information and resources can be accessed via the Bag Ban WA website www.bagbanwa.com.au.
