A LOCAL primary school will be able to keep cooler this year thanks to a grant from Shire of Mundaring.
Shire President David Lavell said Sawyers Valley Primary School P&C was successful in the recent Matching Grant round.
"The school's P&C was granted $2000 to install a shade shelter alongside the sports oval," he said.
"This will make a huge difference to not only the students at lunch time, but also for parents who come to watch school carnivals in the warmer months."
Cr Lavell said the shade structure over the amphitheatre seating would cost around $5000.
"The school will match the Shire's funding and through the hard work of the active P&C, fundraising will make up the difference," he said.
"The Matching Grant is a terrific way for local community groups to get assistance with projects and the Shire is delighted to be able to help with such a worthy cause that will help protect children from the harsh sun."
The Matching Grant round runs twice a year. Other successful applicants awarded grants by the Grants Selection Committee this round included Sacred Heart Parents and Friends, Riding for the Disabled Hills Group, Mt Helena Residents and Ratepayers Association, Sawyers Valley Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and Hills Out of School Care Association.
The next Matching Grant round opens in February 2017. Eligible groups are encouraged to apply for grants up to $2000 for small projects such as equipment, minor capital upgrades, promotional material or training. For more information visit www.mundaring.wa.gov.au
