SHIRE employees and councillors are rolling up their sleeves and taking part in a blood donation challenge.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is running a WA Council Blood Challenge between 1 April and 30 June to encourage local government employees to donate blood.
Shire President David Lavell said this was a cause close to his heart.
"I've been donating blood since I was 18 years old, and I've just reached my 251st donation," he said.
"I'd encourage everyone to donate while they are fit and healthy, because at some point we may not be able to do so or may actually require blood or a blood product ourselves."
A number of Shire employees are involved in the challenge, donating both blood and plasma.
"Donating blood is a rewarding activity that helps saves lives. I'm proud of our Shire for taking part and look forward to seeing how we compare to other Councils across WA in the Challenge."
