A bright and informative newsletter inspired by the Noongar six-season calendar has been launched by the Shire's Environmental and Sustainability team.
Six Seasons includes information, updates, upcoming events and inspiration for environmental sustainability initiatives within the shire.
Themed around the Noongar six seasons, each edition will feature original artwork by Indigenous artist and designer, Tyrown Waigana.
The Noongar six-season calendar reflects how nature changes throughout the year in this part of the country.
It also represents an understanding and respect for seasonal cycles of plants and animals, including food availability.
The seasons are Birak (December to January, the first summer), Bunuru (February to March, the second summer), Djeran (April to May, ant season), Makuru (June to July, the first rains), Djilba (August to September, growing season), and Kambarang (October to November, wildflower season).
