Swing into twilight at Sculpture Park

Local concert goers and jazz fans are set to descend upon Sculpture Park in Mundaring, as the amphitheatre comes alive with the upbeat sounds of contemporary jazz on Sunday 28 February.

The Twilight Tunes concert will deliver an evening of live jazz from leading Perth jazz bands, Rubaclava and Sassafras, from 5 to 7.30pm.

Shire President John Daw said it was great news that the concert would go ahead as planned following the five-day COVID lockdown earlier this month.

“It’s a reminder of how fortunate we are living in Western Australia where we are still able to come together as a community,” he said.

“While entry to the concert may look a little different compared to past Shire events, with contact tracing sign-in points, we look forward to delivering the remainder of our summer events program.”

Cr Daw said the free concert was an opportunity for the community to gather together and enjoy a summer evening at a great outdoor venue in the heart of Mundaring.

“We can celebrate what our community in the hills is all about. After the events of the past month, this is particularly important, allowing people to reconnect and support each other,” he said.

This year’s concert builds on the success of the 2020 concert series and promises a fantastic line-up.

Rubaclava is an up-and-coming jazz band filled with talented WAAPA graduates.

They bring a new energy to the genre, delivering the verve of a swingin’ big band to contemporary audiences through its unique jungle jazz.

Sassafras is one of Perth’s premier gypsy jazz bands. They will build on the energy and change the tone, combining toe-tapping swing, breakneck gypsy classics and wistful French ballads to entrance the audience.  As seasoned performers, they play to sell-out crowds at Perth’s Fringe World Festival and the Ellington Jazz Club. This promises to be a real treat for local audiences.

Concert goers are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot in the amphitheatre for this not-to-be-missed concert, crafted to appeal to fans and the uninitiated alike.

Pack a picnic or grab some tasty takeaway from a local business and enjoy the full experience relaxing on a picnic rug.

Full height chairs are allowed on the top tier of the amphitheatre only. Low back, beach and concert chairs are allowed on the middle tiers.
