TCUP is back in 2018

‚ÄčEXPRESSIONS of interest (EOI) for Shire of Mundaring's popular Tree Canopy and Understorey Program (TCUP) are now open.

The program, which has been running for 29 years, is part of the Shire's commitment to provide habitat for native fauna, and plants for residents to create water-wise, sustainable gardens.

Over the program's lifespan more than one million free seedlings and plants have been distributed to local residents, ratepayers and community groups, for planting in gardens throughout the shire.

TCUP coordinator Tracey Bell said once again a wide variety of native species was on offer.

"There's something to suit everyone's needs from small shrubs to larger trees, to flowering species, and bird-attracting plants for your garden," she said.

"Another of the program's benefits is it's a great excuse to get outdoors and enjoy the natural environment that's right here on our doorstep in the Perth Hills."

Ms Bell said the program allowed nature lovers to create sustainable, native gardens.

"We know our residents value the natural environment and TCUP enables people to create gardens that are both water-wise and provide habitat for native animals," she said.

This year's TCUP Species Catalogue is available on the Shire website alongside a Planting Guide, which contains helpful tips on how to get the best results from your seedlings.

How to apply:

  • Download and print an EOI form from the Shire website or;
  • Obtain a hardcopy EOI form from the Shire Administration Building or Shire libraries.

Completed forms can be returned via post or in person to the Shire Administration Building, 7000 Great Eastern Highway, Mundaring WA 6073.

Expressions of interest close on Friday 20 April 2018 and are limited to one submission per household.

Applicants are reminded that their EOI is a request for seedlings only and, while the Shire does its best to cater to requests, supply cannot be guaranteed.

Successful applicants will be notified via letter from May 2018 onwards.

Once again, Shire of Mundaring welcomes the help of volunteers to hand-out seedlings from a central distribution point within the shire. If you are interested in volunteering for the 2018 program please contact TCUP coordinator Tracey Bell on 9290 6641 or email
