MORE than 40 volunteers were recognised for the contributions in the Shire of Mundaring at an event on the weekend.
Shire President David Lavell said the 2016 Thank a Volunteer Day was attended by nearly 100 people on Sunday 27 November.
"Thank a Volunteer Day is the Shire's way of recognising those people who give their time to help others," he said.
"The volunteers also bring their family along to enjoy a lunch and presentation and share what wonderful things the volunteers do. We recognise that volunteering also impacts on family time so it really is a joint effort."
Cr Lavell said the volunteers were recognised in several categories including sport, community, environment/art, emergency services and schools.
"This is the second year we have run a Lifetime Contributor category to recognise those who volunteer for a large number of years," he said.
"This year we recognised Hazel Brandon, Mary Mell, Denis Thompson, Colin James, Peter Day and Karen Goddard. Between them, they've volunteered in our community for a staggering 142 years.
"It is people like these six who are the pillars of our community and make such a difference to the lives of so many. The Shire is proud to support volunteers and run this annual event."
Thank a Volunteer Day was held at the Shire's Civic Area, with guests enjoying a long table lunch. Volunteers were gifted a small present, native plant and a certificate each.
