Two free Bushfire Information Webinars presented by Shire of Mundaring will help residents prepare for this summer's bushfire season.
Presented by the Community Safety and Emergency Management team in two parts, the webinars will replace the Test Your Bushfire Survival Plan Facebook event hosted by the Shire in recent years.
Coordinator Community Safety and Emergency Management Craig Cuthbert encouraged local residents to participate in the webinars and familiarise themselves with the educational materials on the Shire and DFES websites.
"It is not a matter of if, rather a matter of when, a bushfire will impact our community and your property," he said.
"These interactive webinars will include an opportunity for participants to ask questions and help residents prepare themselves and their properties for this summer and future bushfire seasons."
Webinar 1 on Wednesday 2 December, will focus on the seasonal outlook; the compliance criteria and why it exists; the pros and cons of hazard reduction burning at different times of the year; and how Fire Danger Ratings and imposed bans work.
The team will also outline the Shire's role in mitigation and preparedness and explain what each warning means.
Webinar 2, on Wednesday 9 December, will explain the structure of local brigades; the type of appliances and equipment the Shire uses and their capabilities; how residents can assist brigades; how to volunteer; the importance of a bushfire plan; information about evacuation centres; and what to do with animals during a fire emergency. Participants will also learn about recovery following a crisis.
