Entries into the Shire of Mundaring and Mundaring and Hills Historical Society's Snapped! Historic Photo Competition are now open.
Residents can submit their old photos depicting people, places and events connected to the shire from before the year 2000, for a chance to win $100.
Shire President, John Daw, said residents were encouraged to dust off their photo albums in the search of photos that showed how much, or how little, local places had changed over the past 30 or 40 years.
"If you have photos of a local arts or sporting event, people at work or play, or of much-loved places, we would love to see them," he said.
"The photos don't have to be artistic. We are searching for the historical reality shown in the image to help build local digitised image collections."
A $100 cash prize is offered for the Open Award, with the photo that receives the most likes on the Shire of Mundaring Libraries' Facebook page set to win a $100 People's Choice prize.
Entrants must accompany each photograph with a short description (maximum 50 words) of the people, places or events depicted and their relationship to the Shire of Mundaring.
The year or decade the photo was taken is also required.
Cr Daw said the competition had been expanded this year to include a Photo Caption Category.
Participants can caption a photo selected by the Mundaring and Hills and Historical Society which can be viewed on the Snapped page on the Shire's website. The caption must have a maximum 30 word (or less caption), for a chance to win another $100 prize.
"This will allow residents who don't have a historical photo on hand, but are keen and able to pen a great caption, to enter as well," said Cr Daw.
"We have some very passionate and long-term residents with some great stories to tell," he said.
"I look forward to reading their captions and viewing all of the 'Snapped' entries."
Entries close Monday 23 August. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 15 September. Photos can be viewed on the Libraries' Facebook page.
