Bush Fires

Bush fires happen every summer. They can start suddenly and without warning. People have been killed or seriously injured, and homes destroyed during bushfires. If you live in or near bush, fire is a real risk to you and your family.

Fire Chat
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) encourages people living in high bushfire risk areas to have a 5 minute fire chat with their family, friends and/or neighbours to discuss what you will do in the event of a bushfire.

Your 5 minute fire chat  will cover three key questions:

  • When will you know to leave?
  • Where will you go?
  • Which way will you go?

Bushfire Plan
The next step is to answer six simple questions in order to identify the most suitable Bushfire Plan for you and your family. From here you can download key bushfire preparedness resources including:

  • Your Bushfire Plan
  • "Preparing Your Emergency Kit"
  • "Property Preparation Checklist"

To select a Bushfire Plan for you and your family, or to view additional information and links to further resources, visit the DFES website's Fire Chat page.
