The Shire of Mundaring Health Local Laws 2003 (Local Laws) states that no more than two (2) hives can be kept on a lot, other than on lots zoned General Rural. Should you wish to keep more than two hives you will need to obtain Planning Approval.

All hives within Western Australia are required to seek separate approval from the Department of Agriculture.

Bees must be kept in accordance with the following requirements:

  • An adequate and permanent supply of water is provided on the lot within 10 meters from, any building other than a fence.

  • The hive must be kept outside and at least 10 meters from a building, at least 10 meters from any footpath, street or public place.

  • The hive must be kept at least 5 meters from the boundary of the lot.

  • The hive is enclosed on all sides by a fence, wall or other enclosure.

Please be advised a person shall not keep, or permit the keeping of, bees which cause a nuisance.
