Statistics for 2018/19 - Last updated 15/03/2019
94 nests have been detected and eradicated with more to find!
All nests have been located in the Perth Metropolitan region with no regional detections to date.
Over 40 positive public detections have been received, with residents reporting nests in retaining walls and gardens, as well as wasps in their swimming pools, on their food and visiting bird baths. These reports are proving integral to the operations and residents are detecting wasps and nests before they even reach the surveillance traps!
Over 2100 DPIRD traps have been deployed with an additional 250 deployed by members of the public, local government, environmental groups and the Dept. of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
An estimated 400+ additional traps look to be installed to expand the area under surveillance – primarily in the Perth Hills
We need all hands on deck and all eyes looking to be able to detect and eradicate these pests ASAP.
These, and adjoining areas, remain under surveillance and are high on DPIRD's priority list!
