Any person intending to set up a temporary food stall within the Shire will need to obtain approval from the Shire's Health Service. Applications to operate at a public event must be submitted through the event organiser.
The information listed below may be required with your application.
Copy of food business registration certificate from relevant Local Government Authority (if applicable).
Layout of food stall/vehicle.
Approval from land-owner to operate the stall on their land if the stall is not at a public event.
Public liability insurance if stall is to be operated on Shire owned land.
Evidence of food handler training. Shire of Mundaring offers free food handler training through FoodSafe Online course.
Fundraising Food Stalls
Fundraising Food Stalls can be operated without Food Business Registration if they obtain a stallholder permit from the Shire, and all profits from the stall go directly to a not-for-profit organisation.
There are restrictions on the type of products that may be sold from a fundraising stall. The products must either be low-risk products or be cooked and served for immediate consumption. Such products include:
- sausage sizzle
- jams, marmalades, preserves, sauces;
- flour-based products that do not contain potentially hazardous foods such as cream and custards
- cake decorating
- fairy floss
- fudges, nougats, meringues
- repackaging of low risk products (coffee, tea, confectionary etc).
All people contributing to or operating the stall must comply with food handler skills and knowledge; labelling requirements; health and hygiene for food handling.
