Disability Awareness Week and
International Day of People with Disability
The International Day of People with Disability is held annually on 3 December and is celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability. The Shire celebrates Disability Awareness Week and International Day of People with Disability by either purchasing a piece of equipment to assist people with disability (or similar) or by providing an event.
Celebrating Community Award
(merged with Celebration of Ability Award)
The Celebrating Community Award includes the Celebration of Ability Award by providing a category on Access Mundaring. The Award recognises individuals or groups in paid or voluntary roles that are providing a welcoming and more accessible and inclusive Shire of Mundaring. It celebrates and acknowledges the positive impact people can have on the lives of people with disability and their family, friends and carers. These people ease some of the social isolation that can be experienced by people with disability.
Celebrate Shire of Mundaring's inspirational community members by nominating them for the Celebrating Community awards. Nominations are invited for individuals, businesses or community groups who have made a significant contribution to the local community.
Shire of Mundaring will formally recognise the achievements of nominees at a celebratory high tea to be held on Sunday 3 December 2017 at 10am.
