Country Connections
Past Event
Established in 1985, the Shire of Mundaring Art Collection celebrates the wealth of Western Australian artistic practice with a range of 190 exquisite objects and 2D artworks.
The 2022 Shire of Mundaring Open Art Acquisition Exhibition invites artists with a continuing connection to Mundaring and its country to submit artworks that reflect and explore materials, themes, and cultural relationships to and about the natural world.
The country around Mundaring is significant for its diverse network of forest reserves and waterways that provide living sanctuaries for native flora and fauna across areas of development and beyond nominal administrative boundaries.
People who maintain a connection to Mundaring are transformed by a continuing relationship to the bush through an abiding interrelation and compassion for its complexity and cultivation of knowledge and awareness about its conservation.
The bush too has a life-affirming role in our common health and cultural significance for First Nations peoples, spanning regions and generations of communities across metropolitan Perth. A selection of works from the collection by Olga Cironis, Alex Boddington, Sarah Elson, and Bethamy Linton are showcased as part of Country Connections, sharing these artists' expression of identity and connection to the land through iconic objects.
