Winners of 2022 competition
There were three categories in the 2022 competition:
- Open Award
- People's Choice Award
- Best Caption
Open Award Winner: Mira Ashton
The winner of the Open Award is Mira Ashton of Darlington for this charming photograph.
Mira writes that the image shows "children at play in the only natural water swimming hole along Nyaania Creek, circa 1958, catching gilgies and tadpoles, no doubt...playing and having fun in the
creek".
The judges were unanimous in voting this image the winner, saying that it "beautifully captures one of the great pleasures of childhood - just mucking
around in water, playing with friends and looking in underwater nooks and crannies for gilgies. It is also an historically significant photograph, with Nyaania Creek clearly an important community space where young and old gathered to relax and stay cool, in the days before Bilgoman Pool was built.”

Best Caption Winner: Michelle Ford
Congratulations to Michelle Ford of Stoneville for her winning caption for the image of the locomotive which derailed in Wooroloo around 1949. Michelle's caption was
"I don't think I can today!"
