2021 Celebrating Community Awards

Mundaring Arena came alive with a celebration of community groups and individuals as part of the Shire of Mundaring's Celebrating Community Awards on Sunday 5 December.

Fifteen inspirational volunteers and seven long serving community champions were celebrated for their significant contributions to the local community.

Recipients included six individuals were recognised for their support during, and throughout the recovery of the Wooroloo Bushfire; three people who contributed to the Silver Tree Steiner School; the Save Perth Hills group, and two long-serving Chidlow Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade members.

Shire President, James Martin, congratulated all award recipients for their dedication to our community.

"This year we have seen a diverse range of individuals recognised for their valued contribution," he said.

"I want to sincerely thank each and every one of our volunteers and groups who have made a significant contribution over the year. Without your time and dedication, it would be difficult to deliver great things across our community."

The Shire's Celebrating Community Awards are presented each year to coincide with International Volunteer Day, 5 December.

Inspirational Volunteer Award recipients

The Inspirational Volunteer Award recognises an individual or group who, through a volunteering role, has made an outstanding contribution to the local community.

  • Wade Isard – Mt Helena Amateur Swim Club

  • Vanessa Van der Swaagh – Wooroloo Primary School P&C
  • Chuan Seng Yean – Silver Tree Steiner School
  • Simon Cherriman and Danielle Crichton – The Re-CycOlogy Project
  • Kathy Wood - Friends of Harold Street Reserve, Friends of Glen Forrest Superblock, Friends of Nyaania Creek and Railway Heritage Reserve

  • Lucy Ronald – Perth Hills Mundaring Visitor Centre

Long Service Award recipients

The Long Service Award is for individuals or groups who have been community champions and continuously served their community for in excess of ten years.

  • Willie and Rod Warnock – HorsePower Hills
  • David Forsyth – Chidlow Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade
  • Rod Blyth – Chidlow Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade
  • Rodney Powell – Hills Night Hockey Association

The recipients will also go in the running to receive a Shire of Mundaring Citizenship Award. This award acknowledges individuals and groups, selected by a committee of Councillors, who have made a significant contribution to their community within the current year (2021), or given outstanding service to the community over a number of years through active involvement.

The Citizenship Awards will be presented in the same categories at a celebratory event on Australia Day, Wednesday 26 January 2022.
