Shire of Mundaring residents interested in joining a local community or sporting group, or seeking volunteering opportunities, are invited to a free expo on Sunday 5 December.
The Connecting Community Expo at Mundaring Arena will showcase a range of local community and sporting groups from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Shire of Mundaring Acting Chief Executive Officer, Garry Bird, said the Shire's first community expo would coincide with International Volunteer Day and offer a one-stop shop for residents to gain information.
"This is the first time that community groups have come together in partnership with the Shire to host an Expo for community members to connect, share ideas and see what types of opportunities are available," he said.
"We have a wide variety of community and sporting groups in the shire. If residents have considered joining a club or sport, particularly if they are new residents or they have some spare time to volunteer, then look no further than the Connecting Community Expo."
There will be a diverse range of interactive stalls on offer including Scouting, environmental, sporting and arts groups, with the opportunity to hear about volunteering opportunities.
The day will be abuzz with activities including roving radio interviews with the community groups, games by the Youth C.R.E.W., Pedal Powered Smoothies, an interactive social media wall and opportunities to network.
"Don't forget to grab a passport upon entry, get it stamped at the expo stalls and go into the draw to win a prize," Mr Bird said.
To coincide with International Volunteer Day, the Shire's annual Celebrating Community Awards will be presented to those nominated by the community, following the Expo. The ceremony will begin at 11.30am in the Bendigo Room at Mundaring Arena.
Mr Bird said many of the shire's community groups were volunteer-led and managed.
"The awards recognise the valuable contribution that volunteers living in the shire make to our community," he said. "Members of our wider community are welcome to attend the awards ceremony and hear about the significant contributions of the nominees."
The awards ceremony will be followed by networking from 12pm to 1pm.
