Shire of Mundaring residents and businesses are invited to have their say on a draft Economic Development and Tourism Informing Strategy from Monday 3 April to Monday 1 May.

The draft Strategy sets the strategic direction for the Shire to be considered as a location of choice to live, work, play and invest and aligns with the community’s vision for the Shire as a place for sustainable living.

Shire President James Martin said since 2021 the Shire has worked towards the creation of a business-led and a Council supported approach to enable economic development and tourism to prosper.

“The proposed approach is detailed within the draft ‘Planning for Prosperity, Shire of Mundaring Economic Development and Tourism Informing Strategy,” he said.

The Strategy has been prepared in consultation with the Strategy Reference Group which was formed in 2021, comprising of local businesses, enterprise and tourism representatives and the Mundaring and Swan Chambers of Commerce.

In October 2022, the Shire invited residents and businesses to participate in a survey to assist the Shire in developing the Strategy.

Cr Martin said the Shire received 121 responses from community members which aided in the preparation of the strategy.

“Thank you to all community members who took the time to complete the survey,” he said.

“From the survey responses we were able to determine the Shire’s challenges and strengths in terms of economic development; what community members felt was needed for sustainable growth in the shire; opinions on economic development and tourism and suggested economic development and tourism projects and initiatives.

“This has shaped the draft Strategy which we encourage community members, including local businesses to comment on.”

The Strategy is currently open for comment on the Shire’s Engage Mundaring website and will go to Council for consideration and adoption in June.
