An extraordinary election to fill a vacant seat in Shire of Mundaring’s East Ward will take place on Friday 1 July 2022.
The seat was held by Cr Simon Cuthbert from October 2019 until 4 April 2022.
Cr Cuthbert tendered his resignation earlier this month to focus on his health and wellbeing. His term was due to expire on 21 October 2023.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Garry Bird encouraged ratepayers in the East Ward to update their enrolment details with the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) if they had recently moved or changed their name.
“The WAEC has a handy ‘check your enrolment tool’ on its website,” he said. “In many cases, you can also easily change your address or name via their online forms.”
Those people who are currently enrolled as a resident or owner/occupier in the shire do not need to re-enrol for the extraordinary election.
Nominations for the electoral roll will close on Thursday 12 May. Eligible voters will have the opportunity to vote via post or in-person at the Shire Administration Building between 8am and 6pm on Friday 1 July.
Candidate nominations will open on Wednesday 18 May and close at 4pm on Wednesday 25 May, Mr Bird added.
“We will share details about how eligible candidates can nominate once we have been advised of the Returning Officer for the election,” he said.
