Garden and Farmers Market offered trial fee waiver

‚ÄčOrganisers of the Mundaring Garden and Farmers Market will be able to hold their market on a weekly basis for a trial period of one year, with hire fees being waived for an additional period of three months.

This week Shire of Mundaring considered a request to increase the frequency of the Saturday markets from fortnightly to weekly. A waiver of fees for the use of Sculpture Park, the location of the market, was also considered.

The applicant requested a fee waiver following an initial three-month trial – which included free use of an area at Sculpture Park – as they wish to grow the markets further.

Council resolved last night to waive 100 per cent of the hire fees for Sculpture Park, valued at $29 per hour, for the next three months. After the trial period ends, the full hire fees will be reinstated.

Shire President James Martin said the organisers had stated they were unaware that the original waiver of fees was for a three month period.

"Council, in good faith, accepted this and provided them with a further three months of hire fee waiver to assist in establishing the markets," he said.

"The waiver, if accepted by the organisers, is conditional on the Shire of Mundaring being acknowledged in all promotional material, with evidence to be reported to the Shire at the end of the three months."

Cr Martin said the decision supported the achievement of the Shire of Mundaring Town Centre Masterplan goals while providing a level of parity and consistency in the application of Shire facility charges.
