Amateur and professional wildlife photography enthusiasts are invited to share wildlife photographs taken across the shire for a chance to win one of 18 gift vouchers from a local business.
Shire of Mundaring is hosting a new photography competition, Wild Mundaring, aimed at showcasing the magnificent wildlife found in the shire.
Select images from the competition will be chosen for inclusion in a Shire produced booklet titled ‘Wildlife of the Perth Hills’. The booklet will feature a diverse range of species typically found in the region.
Shire President James Martin said the competition was a great opportunity for talented local photographers to gain recognition and be part of a great project.
“With mild weather, beautiful surrounds and our wildlife active, the timing is perfect for going for a walk in a local nature reserve,” he said.
“There are six categories to enter including invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and examples of habitats such as nesting hollows.
“Participants are invited to submit up to 20 images. Three photographs from each category will win a gift voucher to a local business.”
“We understand some species are in hibernation, so not all categories can be found to photograph. Entrants may want to go back through their existing collection to find good, clear images of native animals.”
Wildlife of the Perth Hills booklet
Shortlisted photographs will be used in the Shire’s new Wildlife of the Perth Hills booklet with photo credit.
The book will not only highlight the natural beauty of the local wildlife, it will bring the community together through the creation of this new booklet.
Although not intended to be an exhaustive list of every species, the booklet will serve as a starting point for those interested in learning more about the local fauna.
As a free community resource and reference guide, it is hoped the booklet will ignite a passion for the remarkable wildlife that inhabits the Perth Hills and foothills, now and for generations to come. The competition is an opportunity to celebrate the abundant talent of photographers in our shire and help foster a sense of belonging and community ownership.
Submissions will feature in an online gallery on the Shire’s website.
The competition runs from Monday 15 May to Saturday 15 July.
Winners will be notified in August.
