Mundaring Arts Centre announce two upcoming exhibitions in May

Exploring the intricate ties between place, space, feelings and emotions, Mundaring Arts centre are holding two interconnected contemporary art exhibitions from Saturday 20 May 2023 to Sunday 16 July 2023.

Gallery One

Gallery One will host Genius Loci with artists Shelley Cowper, Haya Hagit Cohen and Elmari Steyn exploring the intricate ties between place, space, feelings and emotions. Communicating through art created using traditional printmaking techniques and mixed media works, the trio work together to construct a spiritual connection to place.

For Cowper, Cohen and Steyn, the meaning of ‘place’ is a combination of ties between spaces, feelings and emotions where the heart and mind work together to register memory, longing and belonging. Exploring the essence of spiritual connections between people, communities and locations has been a preoccupation for the artists who translate their thoughts into artworks through traditional and specialist printmaking techniques.

Gallery Two

Gallery Two will showcase Into the Gully, a series of artworks by artist Barbara Gell. The works capture the artist’s sense of place and impressions of being in Whistlepipe Gully in the Perth Hills. The exhibition features paintings and drawings that reference the landscape and the natural environment.

Inspired by Whistlepipe Gully near her Kalamunda home, the works capture the feelings and impression of being in the gully, a sense of the place rather than representations of a particular view. The concept for each work is based in the geometrical structure and division of space on the picture plane.
