As Australia comes together to reflect, respect and celebrate this Australia Day, Shire of Mundaring will welcome 29 new citizens at its Australia Day Citizenship and Awards Ceremony.

The annual event will see residents from nine countries confer their status to Australian citizens at a private ceremony on Wednesday 26 January.

Shire of Mundaring President James Martin said the event was an opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity in the shire and our volunteers.

“This year, conferring residents have come from Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, England, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom and Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Congratulations to residents who are becoming Australian citizens. This is a special day for you and your family, and for our shire. We welcome you as Australian Citizens and as part of the Australian story.”

As part of the event, the Shire will recognise and celebrate the significant contribution of volunteers on community life and active citizenship at its annual Citizen Awards.

Cr Martin said recipients for the Citizen Awards were selected from the Celebrating Community award winners presented in December 2021.

“These residents have made a noteworthy contribution during the year, or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years” he said.

“Their time and dedication is valued.”

Congratulations to all nominees and recipients.

The Shire hosts six citizenship ceremonies each year on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs.
