New Darlington history brochures will soon fill the shelves at the Mundaring Hills Visitor Centre, thanks to a community grant from Shire of Mundaring.
The Darlington History Group recently received a $205 General Purpose Quick Grant for the development of new ‘Sharing our Heritage’ flyers.
Chairperson of the Darlington History Group, Val Shiell said they were pleased to receive funding for the brochures.
“The new brochures are just one project we are working on,” she said.
“We are working towards setting up the Darlington Heritage Walk Trail and the brochures will assist in sharing the area’s history with the walkers.”
The Darlington History Group was first established 12 years ago and has received five grants from the Shire worth a total $5930.70 for equipment, book development, volunteer and 10th anniversary recognition events.
Nineteen eligible applications were received for the first round of the 2022-2023 Quick Grants, totalling $9023.49.
Grants for $500 were awarded to the following:
- Hills Night Hockey Association for promotional signage.
- Mundaring Junior Football Club for training footballs.
- HorsePower Hills for safety seating.
- Mundaring Toy Library for party packs.
- Darlington Scout Group for group activity shirts.
- Hills Ukulele Group for performance development.
- Parkerville Playgroup for play equipment.
- Perth Hills United Football Club for a set of Alpha goals.
- Glen Forrest Community Garden for garden maintenance equipment.
- Hills Junior Hockey for first aid kits.
- Chidlow Progress Association for kitchen equipment.
- Parkerville Junior Football Club for footballs.
The following groups received grants valued between $200 and $500:
- Glen Forrest Resident and Ratepayer Association for trestle tables ($483)
- Eastern Hills Little Athletics Centre for a PA System ($444)
- Sawyers Valley Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade for promotional banners ($496)
- Mahogany Creek Tennis Club for stainless steel drawers and brochure holders ($427.76)
- Stoneville Parkerville Progress Association for equipment for the community garden ($472.03)
- Darlington History Group for brochure development ($205.70)
- Sacred Heart Sporting Group for coach and manager shirts ($495)
General Purpose Quick Grants awards up to $500 to community groups for the purchase of small equipment, training, promotional material and any other small projects that benefit the community.
The next round of applications open Friday 21 April 2023.
