Shire of Mundaring wishes to thank and farewell East Ward Councillor Simon Cuthbert who yesterday resigned effective immediately from Council.

Cr Cuthbert was elected to Council in October 2019. Yesterday, he announced he wished to step down in order to focus on his mental health.

Speaking on behalf of Council, Shire President James Martin, thanked Cr Cuthbert for his tireless service and exceptional commitment to our community.

“It has been a privilege to work with Simon,” he said.

“He is passionate about the community with which he has ties back to childhood. He always pitches in and contributes and he holds the highest levels of integrity. Simon exemplifies the qualities communities expect of their leaders.

“He has been a strong advocate for mental health and has passionately discussed – and raised awareness about – this important topic in the Council Chambers, particularly in relation to COVID-19 and the Wooroloo Bushfire impacts.

“We respect Simon’s decision to prioritise his mental health and wellbeing. He continues to have our full support and we wish him well for the future.”

Details of the election for a new councillor will be considered at the 12 April Ordinary Council Meeting.
