Young people called to be Agents of Change

Published on Tuesday, 26 July 2022 at 8:41:18 AM

A recent recipient of Shire of Mundaring’s Youth Engagement Partnership Fund invites young people aged 12 to 18 years to the launch of an Agents of Climate Change Project on Thursday 28 July.

Millennium Kids will host the youth led climate education and deliberation event at the Boya Community Centre, from 6pm to 8.30pm.

Shire President James Martin said the youth event will provide opportunities for young people to hear plans for the Agents of Climate Change Project.

“I encourage young people in the shire who are interested in taking action against climate change to join the Agents of Climate Change Project,” he said.

“Come along to this free event and connect with other young people in the shire and wider WA community.”

Take action against climate change

Attendees at the event will have the opportunity to hear from young people taking action against climate change including hearing from Amelia, MK Youth Board member, online from Germany, who recently attended the Stockholm +50.

There will also be an opportunity to listen to and record their ideas, concerns and solutions as well as identify leaders who are willing to learn how to listen to others, collate their ideas and bring them to authorities who can make changes happen.

Cr Martin said Millennium Kids had received $9,291.20 from the Shire’s Youth Engagement Partnership Fund to provide an opportunity for young people to be trained as facilitators for future climate change forums.

“The Council is proud to support youth initiatives across the shire and I am pleased to see this project coming to fruition,” he said.

“I encourage young people interested in making a difference to go along and contribute their ideas.”

The project is part of a WA wide 'Agents of Climate Change' project.

Register for the launch

The launch event will take place in the city with Mundaring and other regions participating online.  There will be a big screen in place at the venue and activities (it won't be just participation via screen, Millennium Kids will begin developing the hills project at the launch).

The event is limited to 20 people.
