A Shire of Mundaring partnership grant which allows community groups with a proposal for youth activities to apply for up to $25,000 in funding is now open for submissions.

The Youth Engagement Partnership Fund invites groups to apply for funding to deliver events and activities aligned to the Shire’s Youth Informing Strategy 2017/2022.

Shire President James Martin said the grant had been successful in recent years in enabling community groups to roll out positive initiatives for young people across the shire that aligned with the Strategy.

“This strategy has guiding principles of youth connection, strengthening of strategic partnerships, focussing on skill development and enabling peer support opportunities,” he said.

“Activities the Shire is seeking to fund will help young people develop their personal and life skills, or increase opportunities for them to actively participate,” he said.

Recent recipients of the YEP Fund

“Recently the Shire awarded Millennium Kids Inc. $9291.20 to up-skill young people with the knowledge and skills to be facilitators. They will lead a series of workshops around climate change as part of the 2021/22 financial year round.

“The group hosted an Agents of Climate Change event to launch their project which was well received. Ten young people aged between 12 and 18 attended the event at Boya Community Centre in July.”

The Darlington Arts Festival Association Inc. were also awarded $25,000 in the last funding round to provide at risk young people with an opportunity to participate in a series of art workshops.

Cr Martin said the Shire was seeking to fund ventures that bring activities to the hills area that young people may not necessarily have an opportunity to be a part of.

“Programs that build resilience and enable young people to connect whilst having fun will be highly regarded,” he said.

“This may include movie nights, summer water activity days, a barbeque at one of our pools, discos, art or music sessions, or drop in/hang out afternoons.”

Now in its fifth year, the grant had previously funded initiatives including personal protective equipment to enable disadvantaged young people to participate in the Hills Billy Cart Inc. event.

Other recipients have included Swan View Districts Football Club, Eastgate Church and Mundaring Chamber of Commerce.
